Causality of Aging Hallmarks
Aging and Disease
Bilu Huang Institute for Aging Research is an independent nonprofit research institute dedicated to exploring the underlying mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases from first principles, and developing feasible strategies for interventions targeting aging and degenerative diseases.
Explore the TheoryA theory-first institute dedicated to understanding aging and addressing age-related diseases.
Develop first-principles explanations of aging and age-related diseases.
Generate testable predictions that distinguish competing hypotheses.
Encourage independent experimental evaluation through open scientific inquiry.
Advance validated research findings toward clinical translation for age-related degenerative diseases.
BHIAR is developing an integrated framework to explain aging across molecular, cellular, tissue, and organismal levels.
This framework proposes that aging is fundamentally a genetic program driven by the shortening of telomeres and/or rDNA arrays through the p53 pathway, rather than by the accumulation of damage. It further proposes that species lifespan is governed by the shortening rate of telomeres and/or rDNA arrays.
The framework generates experimentally testable predictions.
